Police seek information after fatal car crash

One person has died following an accident on State Highway 1 at Wairakei on Saturday.

Police now want to hear from anyone who witnessed the accident.

Taupō Area Road Policing manager senior sergeant Fane Troy says at about 7.30am, two vehicles travelling on a straight stretch of highway collided.

The driver of one vehicle died, and two other people were taken to hospital with “minor to moderate injuries”.

“The Serious Crash Unit has examined the scene, and now Police are asking to hear from anyone who saw the crash occur, or who might have dashcam footage of it.”
